Coral Skirt

Dyed my hair red! It was so dark - this was a few days after I did it.

I wore this a few Sundays ago for our talks in Sacrament meeting. I had so many people say they didn't recognize me. I think that was because I was getting flashy in my lacy top, not the hair. I re-did this skirt  I got at the thrift store. It started out it's life as a size 22. I like these skirts with a built in pocket & buttons instead of a zipper, because let's be honest, where else us ladies gonna keep our chapstick and tissues, amiright?

Marigold Dress

I made this dress a long time ago...but I haven't worn it very many times. I used the same pattern for this dress as for the cream floral and the red lace one. I made this one even before the other two, that's how long ago it was. I hadn't changed the back or the sleeves as I did on the other one a just followed the pattern. I don't really love the sleeves- with their sticky-out-ness. When I made the other ones I made them drop shoulder instead of these lil' cap sleeve things. Whatever they are.
I don't have any good pictures of the back, so just enjoy it's brightness as is.

Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch

Since it's been forever, I figured I'd post something great. This great thing is called the Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch. It's outside Tuscon, AZ. It's pretty amazing. And I bet if it hadn't been 100+ degrees that would have been an extra perk.

We were joined by my brother-in-law, who we were visiting in Tucson, my niece and nephew, and various other in laws.

And one more fantastic thing:

(ostriches are terrifying, giant dinosaurs)

Makes me want to make those statistics even higher.

crazy google earth pictures

Some are weird. Some are funny. Some are sad.

It's a tie for my favorite between this one:

black paperbag waist skirt

me: So how does it look?
Chris: I like it. There's just something about it that's weird though.
me: Well...what?
Chris: The bottom is nice but the top kind of looks like a sack.
me: It's called a paper bag waist skirt.

P.S. Happy Leap Day William!

Pantone 2012 Color of the year- Tangerine Tango

Hmmm. I'm on the fence. I think I like it if it's not too fluorescent. I definitely like this:
(not like I can paint my apartment or anything...)

I didn't even realize that pantone had a whole color scheme to go along with it for spring and fall. Interesting.

Bamboo Nails

This time black and yellow.  I dress-I actually thought it was a bamboo pattern when I first saw it so that's what I did. They were labor intensive but worth it. Alas, as all nail polish, it's fleeting.

Teal and Orange Nails

Doing nails for inspiration? Okay. I found this on polyvore- which can get addicting.

This too shall pass

Me: I think I'm bad at my job.
Chris: Why?
Me: Because I hate kids ...Or at least some of them

It's been a tough week. I've been sick and work is- well, work. (I won't go into the details). Basically I need to find something else, something I like.

I saw this bumper sticker tonight:

"Do random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty"

Leave it to the back of a car to really tell it like it is.

From October

These are from our trip to Kentucky last October for my sister's wedding. I really do love Kentucky. Look at the colors! This is down by the Ohio River. We would go down here every year to get apple cider and pick pumpkins. We didn't get any pumpkins because we were leaving in two days but it was great to look through them. And Chris made me pick up the biggest one I could find in the patch. I could hardly lift it.

You ever see half a handstand?

Is someone holding my feet or am I just that awesome at hand stands?
(Hint- I'm just that awesome)

Recent Reads, AJ Jacobs

I recently read both The Know-It-All and The Guinea Pig Diaries. Love this guy! Seriously. What can I say, I like funny memoir-like non-fiction. About two years ago I read The Year of Living Biblically. This guy is nuts. But I like. My brain is full of trivia after reading his books. See: Taiping Rebellion

Christmas Decorations

We made two wreaths this year- one out of yarn and felt and one out of pages from an old book. Both with lots and lots of hot glue. I made our stockings out of an old fair isle sweater that I bought at the thrift store. I was going to make this  reindeer-thing out of it, but then I realized that I could make a stocking. So I made two.  I actually hung up our Christmas cards this year. I got that amazing santa + dog picture at the thrift store. It begs a lot of questions:
1. Why would you ever want to get rid of that picture? priceless and
2. Who donates a frame with a picture still in it? Weird.

Our Christmas

We went to church in the morning and then came home and opened presents! Santa! I won't bore you with the pictures of me giving Chris socks. I mean . . . Santa. But I was excited to give him the surfboard case I made him. It's basically a huge gray blob that looks like a whale when you put it on the long board, but he said it was exactly what he wanted. That made me feel nice.
Do you like my stocking? Chris filled mine with awesome stuff- like gum! Is he trying to tell me something?

Recent Reads, Malcolm Gladwell

I've been really into [good] non-fiction lately. Not the dry stuff. But Gladwell I like. I read Outliers  in 2010 and Blink this past December, and I am currently working on Tipping Point. I started What the Dog Saw but I'm not currently working on it.

New fabric on folding chairs

We got two of these folding chairs from my friend Natalie when she and her husband moved back up to Utah. Miss them. The fabric is from a vintage pillowcase. Which never needs ironing. Good to know.

Duo-green nails

I did a chevron/triangle on my nails in two greens. The darker green is actually more of a sparkle teal but it's hard to tell in the pictures. I got it at this random clothing store for $1 and it's lasted surprisingly well, but it took a long time to dry. I only did black on one hand because I decided I liked it better without.

Officially New Years- only late

So. It's the new year. Yup. Blargh. I'm just a little (lot) late.

My new years resolutions from last year?

I'm basically happy with where I am in relation to those resolutions. Resolutions are flexible. In the past I've felt like I need to do them/ finish/ complete them. I realize now that just doesn't work for me. I like resolutions. Really and truly I do. I think they're a good jumping off point for things you want to achieve. And I also think it's okay if you don't finish all of them. We do them to help us, right? Not to make us feel bad about what we didn't achieve.

So I could have done better. But like I said, I can do better this year. Why haven't I posted since September? I don't know!

Here's what I've got in store for this year:
Some of these are a little different than what I usually do, but it's all about the new year, am I right? Right.

Plus, 2012 is the year of the dragon.
